It seems like in the N Pac and N Atl we’re seeing a ton of rotation with little development. This tells me there is a lot of lifting energy due to a strong lapse rate, possibly due to the strong westerlies. But given La Nina ENSO we’re seeing cooler tropical waters out here, with a strange SST anomaly more northerly. So a cooler, thinner troposphere would be consistent with this picture too.
Do you have any thoughts on this?
